Cindy Gallop: Make Love Not Porn

Cindy Gallop is honest, open and straight to the point when it comes to talking about her own personal experience with sex and porn. This TED talk is not about judgement, it's not about good and bad and it's definitely not anti-porn.  It does however address my own concern with the fact that children are now accessing porn freely and easily at a younger age more than ever before.  For many children it's their first experience of sex, intimacy and physical connection. Porn is now becoming 'sex education' for many young people around the world.

With this in mind I believe Sex Education is more important than ever before.  As parents and educators it's up to us to advocate for more thorough and honest sex education programs in Australian schools, as well as being open and honest with our children at home.

It's also up to us as parents to work on our own sexual issues and concerns so that we are confident and comfortable to discuss sexuality with our children when the time is right.

There is an entire generation growing up that believes that what you see in hard-core pornography is the way you have sex. And this is particularly exacerbated because we live in a puritanical, double standards culture where people believe that a teen abstinence campaign will actually work, where parents are too embarrassed to have conversations about sex with their children, and where educational institutions are terrified of being politically incorrect if they pick up those conversations.
