How To Balance Serial Entrepreneurship With Serial Love Addiction
Life as a serial entrepreneur and serial love addict isn’t always the best combination - both are long-term commitments that take time, passion and a hell-of-a-lot of energy and enthusiasm.
Ever feel so wrapped up and passionate about your business that you find it a challenge to find time for your relationship? Kinda feel like you are torn between two lovers, so to speak? Balancing business and love successfully is an art-form that requires patience, passion and communication. Here are 3 ways that you can do this successfully and keep both alive and kicking for years to come:
No Phone In The Bedroom Policy
This is my top tip for keeping the passion alive in your relationship. If you’re both sitting in bed at night scrolling through emails or Instagram…STOP. Your bedroom is a sacred space that allows for intimacy and connection, the worst thing you can do is allow phones to distract you from being present in one another’s presence. My partner and I have a NO PHONE in the bedroom policy and it’s the one rule that I’m not prepared to bend.
Be Clear About When You Work, And When You Play
There’s nothing worse than planning a day trip together and then finding your partner writing ‘urgent’ email replies whilst out for Sunday lunch (seriously, is it that urgent?). Set aside specific time in your calendar to do stuff you love together. This may be as simple as going out for date night each Wednesday, or taking turns to cook for each other each Sunday evening. Whatever it is that you love, do it together, put away laptops and phones, and be present with one another.
On the flip side, when it’s time to work, communicate that to your partner and let them know that work is your priority at that particular time (ie. every Tuesday you’re in the office ALL day). If you communicate when and where you are working then there is no room for confusion and no room for distraction.
Find a partner who supports your entrepreneurial passion
Life as an entrepreneur can often be crazy and unpredictable, and it takes a particular type of person to want to run their own business. Likewise, dating an entrepreneur may be frustrating, ‘cos entrepreneurs are so passionate about their work that they can get caught up in it for hours and hours (and forget about the fact they need to put time into their relationship too). Either way, a mutual respect and understanding is essential for a relationship to work.
If you are an entrepreneur, and are in the thick of starting a new business, it’s important that you surround yourself with people who support your dream. It’s even more important that your partner does this, and so I encourage you to seek a lover who will support you through thick and thin.
